Seahawks Pro Bowl FS Quandre Diggs suffers broken leg in finale

The Seahawks may have won their final game of the season on Sunday, but it wasn’t all good news. Seahawks Instant Reaction: 710 ESPN Seattle on win in season finaleThat’s because Quandre Diggs, their Pro Bowl free safety, left the 38-30 win over the Cardinals in Arizona in the fourth quarter on a cart with his right leg in an air cast. After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided an update on the injury, disclosing that Diggs suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle. While that sounds bad, it’s actually about as good as Diggs and the Seahawks could hope for, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who tweeted that Diggs’ injury is a “closed fracture with no ligament damage” and that he could return to the field in four months. The injury could not have come at a more heartbreaking time for Diggs, though. He’s set to enter free agency and was set to cash in on a big contract coming off 2 1/2 stellar seasons with the Seahawks. He made five interceptions in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons and had recently been named a starter for the NFC in the Pro Bowl. In another twist of unfortunate fate, Diggs made the Pro Bowl for the first time last season but did not get to play in the game due to it not actually taking place, which was planned due to the pandemic. Now he’ll miss this season’s Pro Bowl on Feb. 6 due to his injury. Diggs shared a tweet of optimism and appreciation Sunday night, roughly two hours after the injury occurred. The question now is whether the Seahawks will look to bring back Diggs. Not only will the injury play a factor, but Seattle already has a ton of money invested in strong safety Jamal Adams, who became the highest-paid safety in the NFL with his four-year, $70 million contract extension he signed before the 2021 season. Adams also ended his season injured, undergoing shoulder surgery in December. Diggs, who will turn 29 later this month, was a sixth-round pick out of Texas in 2015 by the Detroit Lions. Seattle acquired him and a 2021 seventh-round pick for a 2020 fifth-round pick in a October 2019 trade, which was one of the better trades in recent Seahawks history. If this is the end of Wilson era, it was quite the sendoffFollow @BrentStecker
