Multiple states working to change voting laws ahead of midterm elections

Nineteen states passed changes to their voting laws in 2021 that restrict how Americans vote. CBS News political reporter Adam Brewster spoke with Anne-Marie Green and Vladimir Duthiers on CBSN about the effect that will have on the 2022 midterm elections and a recent CBS News poll that shows the majority of Republicans believe there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, though there is no evidence.

Leave it to States to decide.
Imagine a faceless bureaucrats from Washington telling you how to vote.

    Julie DonCarlos says:

Imagine faceless bureaucrats in your state telling you you can’t vote.

    AJ G says:

    @Julie DonCarlos .
State you can vote them out.
    Federal bureaucracy good luck.

Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman says:

Why have faceless bureaucrats from Washington protecting our constitutional right to vote when you could have faceless bureaucrats from state capitols telling you how to vote.

    Haywood Jablowme says:

DC has been voting for itself for long enough

    Very informative report. Thank you.

    Joe O'Neill says:

Interesting how “SeeBS” considers things like proof of ID, time deadlines on requesting absentee ballots, and limits on drop off boxes to be restrictive.

All of these changes are being done to aid in the integrity of the process. They apply to everyone whether Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Alternate Parties.

Please explain how that is restrictive as you never bring on anyone to counter the Democratic propaganda position.

    A. Clark says:

@Joe O’Neill I actually did, they laughed at me and said that their only doing their jobs

    Nonya Bizness says:

@Joe O’Neill first, the reason i bring up trump was stated in my comment: he injected the notion of mass fraud in our elections, which is an insane, third-world banana republic thing never remotely alleged of america before. and republican politicians are responding to that false claim by making dozens of voting restriction laws. ONLY republicans. which sets up the dynamic that repubs are supposedly working to stop dems from all their massive election criming, which then sets the stage that the dem party- one of the two political parties we have- is illegitimate, therefore leaving only one legit party, thereby leaving us with a one party government. do you know what a one party government is? hint: it’s NOT a democracy. this is HUGELY important stuff i’m pointing out to you here.

this is not about trump or biden. it’s about democracy, and protecting it from forces that want to destroy it. in an ideal REPRESENTATIVE democracy, every adult citizen living under government rules would have a vote as to how that government operates. THAT is what the part about “of, for, and by the people” means- that our government merely represents and upholds our will as a country of individual citizens. for every citizen denied or unable to vote, our democracy is weakened. all these new restrictions serve to ~weaken~ our democracy.

these new laws have two main aims: to either push the idea that voters are a bunch of potential criminals that the government needs to strictly scrutinize and reign in, or they are aimed at letting the POLITICIANS ultimately select the politicians- taking the election tallies out of the hands of the ‘untrustworthy’ voters and allowing state legislators to declare the ‘winner’. do you not see where this is going? they have succeeded in making a bunch of otherwise patriotic, good american people believe that VOTING is some nefarious enterprise rife with crime.

there IS NO ‘whataboutism’ in this issue. it is not debated that one party is pushing to contract voting access, and one is pushing to expand it. stepping back from that fact, every american should be on the side of allowing every other american the right to be heard at the ballot box.

mmkay, speaking of ballot boxes, what’s wrong with drop boxes? why shouldn’t they just be installed in every neighborhood for every election to eliminate the need for folks to schedule and travel their vote? why not make them like atm’s, with FR cameras to verify identity without the need to even present government id? seems way more secure than old folks in a school gym verifying identity, no? and WAY more people would have access to their right to participate. i had to travel 1.5 hours each way to vote in 2020. obviously, not everyone can do that.

because citizens are just trying to vote, not to commit felonies. the ultra-conservation heritage foundation has been zealously tracking election fraud going back decades, and their findings are very clearly listed on their website. they show less than 20 TOTAL election fraud cases of ALL TYPES around the 2020 election, almost half of which were committed by politicians and/or their campaigns. those are the documented FACTS.

there is no need to CONTRACT our democracy- our people controlling our government INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND. anyone who says otherwise is working to destroy what we have.

    Nonya Bizness says:

@Joe O’Neill “they should be limited to one per polling place”. why? to be close to the polling place? you don’t have to put a piece of mail in a box close to where you’re wanting it delivered. how does proximity to a polling place make for more security? and polling places in some places have also been eliminated to the point that some people waited in line during a pandemic for 8, 9, 10 hours to cast a vote. do you advocate that way MORE polling places need to be established then?

there has NEVER been a country in the history of the world that lost their democracy– or came to ANY negative outcome– by allowing more people to vote more easily. the same is DISTINCTLY NOT TRUE for countries that contracted voting access.

    Teresa kenton says:

@Nonya Bizness Hillary did the same thing…claiming voter fraud…🤷‍♀️

    Joe O'Neill says:

@Nonya Bizness Because, as I stated, they could then be counted by the people at the polling place, along with the votes cast in person. People who are from that district who are more likely to know who died, who moved.

    silverpairaducks says:

    Raw Stihl says:

I’d like a simple question posed to Gov. DeSantis. “How does minimalizing drop boxes and places where folks can cast their ballots contribute to a fair election?”

    Jim Long says:

@k333rl nope i am sure some coorperations would love that. They will vote in the person to drill on whatever land, take land, and decrease their taxes.

    k333rl says:

@Jim Long how is it in the best interest of the country to let non citizens vote in national elections, and to let citizens in one state vote in local elections of another?

Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman says:

@Marco Polo and since fraud isn’t an issue, nor has it ever been, lets focus on the issue of voter suppression, which is not only an ongoing problem, but an ever increasing problem.

    Billy Pardew says:

Maybe the fact that before 2020 there was no such thing as drop boxes how’s that for an answer

    Raw Stihl says:

@Jim Long What if a raccoon startled a skunk which in turn sprayed said drop box and folks ran away screaming in horror from the smell. But why go down this hole. As Trump said, stop being, “gutless” and just tell us you don’t want brown folks voting. Makes things much simpler.

    Vehement says:

Tyranny is not a conspiracy theory.

    Big Tex says:

    Jim Crow must go.

    A. Clark says:

I agree Jim Crow Joe must go.

    1ronin says:

    Oh no, voter IDs.

    A. Clark says:

    Ahhh BULL$HIT

    k333rl says:

can’t wait to be able to vote in multiple times in multiple states.

    Mister Mood says:

    How often does this occur?

    k333rl says:

@Mister Mood if this bill passes you’ll see it happen a lot more

    Mister Mood says:

@k333rl I need some evidence for that

    k333rl says:

@Mister Mood wait to see if the bill passes.
