Liverpool VS Arsenal News

Arsenal relied on Xhaka in their midfield in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Anfield, however the Swiss player only played 24 minutes in that match.

Because he was red carded directly by the referee. The penalty was handed out after he fouled Diogo Jota when the Portuguese was about to receive a cross at the end of the Arsenal penalty box.

At that time Xhaka was seen trying to make an intercept by lifting his leg. But instead of getting hit by the ball, his leg hit Jota’s stomach.

The incident was then asked to Ben White. He was asked whether Granit Xhaka deserved a red card or not in the Liverpool vs Arsenal match.

But White is reluctant to talk much about the match. But he hinted that Xhaka did not deserve a straight red card.

“I don’t know. He saw the ball and he didn’t know where the man was,” White said as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

“But that’s him and the players did well today,” continued White.

Xhaka Sorry
After the match against Liverpool ended, Granit Xhaka spoke up. He apologized to Arsenal fans for his red card.

“I want to apologize to everyone. I am very proud of my team and the passion they showed to keep a clean sheet tonight,” Xhaka wrote on his Instagram account.

Liverpool vs Arsenal match itself ended with the score 0-0. The second leg will be played at the Emirates Stadium on 21 January 2022.
